Department of Religious Studies at Guru Nanak College, Budhlada is a multi-dimensional institution, which is affiliated with Punjabi University, Patiala like other departments of the college. Religious Studies is a subject in B.A. course. Duration of this course is three years. During these three years, students are taught worlds famous religions such as Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Sikhism. Moreover, discussions are organized in the classes on the topics such as what is Religion, what is its significance for the society and how Religious traditions are helpful to make a good human being, etc. To make these debates fruitful teachers try to give references of the theologians and the great scholars of the subject. Like other subjects of the college, the department follows the syllabus of the Punjabi University, Patiala. This college is a tremendous institution in the Malwa region. Most of the students in this college are from Sikh families . Moreover, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak committee (SGPC) gives various funds and facilities to the department. In this way, department contributes in the flourishment of the Sikh religion by organizing religious tours, guest lectures, religious and historical exhibitions etc. For this purpose, Dharam Parchar Committee always encourages the department. Every year, this department takes religious exams in the month of November which are organized by the Dharm Parchar Committee, Sri Amritsar Sahib. The students who pass these exams with good merit are awarded with scholarship. Moreover, students join the two years correspondence course of Sikhism started by the SGPC. This course provides basic knowledge about Sikhism and other famous religions of world. Students dont have to pay any fees for this course.The department continuously makes efforts to establish a link between the students and their religion, culture, history and heritage. For this purpose the department has made its connections with some social institutions such as Malwa Heritage and Cultural Society, Bathinda and Guru Gobind Singh Study circle, Ludhiana.
