NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers on its roll spread over 298 Universities and 42 (+2) Senior Secondary Councils and Directorate of Vocational Education all over the country. From its inception, more than 3.75 crores students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities, as student volunteers.

  NSS department of the college has been a vibrant and active unit. It has been rendering various services to the society. At present, college has 5 NSS units with 300 volunteers. The overall objective of this scheme is educational and providing services to community. It is student centered program in which projects are implemented by NSS volunteers.

       NSS department organizes various 7 days camp every year in which cleanness drives, blood donation camps, various awreness lectures and rallies on social evils are conducted.

        Besides this, NSS has adopted a village Phaphre Bhai Ke, where our volunteers are consistently working for the upliftment of the village with respect to social, environmental consciousness and other aspects.

NSS Achievements

  • NSS volunteer of our college Hardev Singh got Indra Gandhi National Award. He is the only student among all the colleges of Punjabi University to get this prestigious award.
  • Four NSS Volunteers were selected in team of Punjab state to attend National Integration Peace Camp in Karim Nagar, Telangana from 20 to 25 May, 2015.
  • Five NSS Volunteers were selected in team of Punjab state to attend National Integration Peace Camp in Agartala, Tripura from 19 to 24 November, 2015.
  • Four NSS Volunteers were selected in team of Punjab state to attend National Integration Peace Camp in Patna, Bihar from 21 to 25 February, 2015.
  • Five NSS Volunteers were selected in team of Punjab state to attend National Integration Peace Camp in Muzaffar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh from 14 to 20 September, 2014.
  • Four NSS Volunteers attended National Integration Peace Camp in Yamuna Nagar, Haryana from 08 to 13 October, 2015.

Objectives​

  • Understand the community in which they work and identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
  • Develop among volunteers sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • Utilise volunteers knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  • Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  • Practise national integration and social harmony.
