SOFT SKILL

SOFT SKILL

Department of English offers many programmes to build capacity and enhance skills of its students at UG and PG level. We believe that investment of knowledge and skills will pay our students highest dividends. Our goal is to make students breathe in information & knowledge to exhale success to do well in their lives. For this purpose, the department strives to empower students of all streams. Numerous workshops as well as lectures are help to enhance their communication skills and capacity in language. It is worth mentioning that the concept of Soft Skills was firstly introduced by Salovey and Mayer who firmly considered emotional intelligence as the ability to observe one’s own and other’s emotions, to distinguish among them and to use the information to guide one’s thinking and actions. EQ is used to express emotional intelligence in the same way as IQ is used to express intelligence. We strongly intend that through these quality courses our students should be able to recognize and be sensitive to other’s feelings, by noting body language & tone, can relate their emotions to thoughts, understand the powerful influence of the nature and intensity of emotions, can control and regulate emotions while dealing with self and others to achieve harmony and peace.Soft skills is a sociological term for a person's EQ which refers to the cluster of personality traits, social graces, communication, language, personal habits, friendliness, and optimism that mark us. Soft skills complement hard skills (part of a person's IQ), which are the technical requirements of a job and many other similar jobs.A person's soft skill EQ is an important part of individual contribution to the success of an organization. Organizations, predominantly those which deal with customers face-to-face, are generally more successful if they train their staff to use these skills. Screening or training for personal habits or traits such as dependability, conscientiousness, courtesy honesty, reliability, flexibility and team skills can yield significant return on investment for an organization.  Integrity, good work record, positive ethics, interpersonal skills, valuing education, personal chemistry and willingness all these altogether help to learn and grow.Students learn the importance of being friendly and polite while dealing with others. They learn the important lesson that they can’t impress the people if they possess attitude of arrogance. Others must feel easy while approaching or talking to them. Shouting, yelling and cursing are supposed to a strict taboo for soft skills. There is no denying the fact that Values are intrinsic to our lives. They bring strength to our character and the righteousness to our beliefs. Consistency is value based behavior which leads to reliability. Integrity, combined with enthusiasm and determination, makes an honorable living. People of good character are trustworthy and they know very well how to value their reputation.Character is not a gift, it is an accomplishment. The key qualities of a person of character are trustworthiness, ethics and high morals. Character is easier kept than regained. It creates self-respect and self-esteem. Maturity is reflected in all aspects of a good character- the decisions we make, the friends we choose and the responsibilities we accept.
