The Department of Fashion Technology and Home Science has been successfully running since 2009-10 in Guru Nanak College Budhlada (under the management of SGPC, affiliatedwith Punjabi University Patiala). The Department offers various courses such as B.Voc (Fashion Technology), B.Voc (Garment Designing) and Community Course in Garment Designing (under the Skill Development Scheme of UGC), B.A. (Fashion Designing), B.A. (Home Science) and M.Sc. (Fashion Technology). The Department provides a creative workplaces that assure excellent education in General Textile, Manufacturing and Fashion Designing. In its creative work, the Department searches for new modern tools and methods of decorating and utilizing material structures in the process of product design. This Department has its own library and well-equipped laboratories-: Garment Construction and Pattern Making Lab, Textile Testing Lab, Home Science Lab and CAD Lab. Our fashion design programme train students to use colors, fabrics and ornamentation to craft different fashion items. The hands-on practice allows students to apply skills in interpreting and developing projects in different areas of fashion, and adds more value to their creativity. These groomed, skilled and trained students would be an asset to any relevant industry. During the coursework, students also learn to organize exhibitions for the sale of self-designed handicraft products as well as accessories and fashion shows for showcasing their talents. This will help to encourage students to start their entrepreneurship. The students are provided with opportunities for academic excellence and cultural enrichment to enable them to build a multi-faceted personality to face the challenges that lie ahead. The program is suitably supported by the requisite infrastructure, the latest equipment, computer facilities and an extensive Department library.

Fashion industry provides a vast scope in career options like fashion designing, visual merchandising, costume and textile designing, fashion predictor, fashion director, product development, production management, textile agent, fashion media, event management, self entrepreneurship in the stream of education and much more. Khalsa College, Patiala is a leading institution offering M.Sc. in Fashion Design and Technology. The dedicated faculty is committed towards bringing out and polishing the talent of each student, helping them to become successful entrepreneurs in today's competitive business society.
Eligibility: Graduation in any Stream with at least 50% marks.

Technical and creative skills are of great importance for pursuing a degree in Fashion Design and this is a course offered by very few Indian institutes. A course in Fashion Designing focuses on fabric types and their suitability to the climate, the occasion and wearability. The B.Voc course in Fashion Designing covers numerous areas including Design Thinking and Idea Generation, Fabric Manufacturing, Pattern Making and Construction, Drafting, Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Marketing to name a few.

Duration: 3 Years
It is a three-year course divided into six semesters. The course curriculum is industry-based which contains about 30% general education (theory) and 70% vocational training (practical) components which means that apart from studying the regular curriculum, all students need to undergo industrial training or project work for at least four to eight weeks in every semester.To promote women entrepreneurship in the fashion world with innovative, unique and creative skills.Achieving excellence in various job roles suitable for apparel and fashion industry, through strong skill based education and Practical training.
