Guru Nanak College Budhlada is run by a charitable organization Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee SHRI AMRITSAR SAHIB. The aim of the institute is to provide value-based quality education in the rural and backward belt of Punjab. The vision of the institute is enlightening human minds and social empowerment through education. As the college is very much stick to its mission that is “Transforming the youth into productive asset of society through value-based quality education focusing on their all-round development so that they are able to contribute in the progress of the society to their utmost potential”, hence, the distinctiveness and priority of the college is the holistic development of students along with skill development, scientific spirit, inculcating spiritual, moral, and ethical values in students through various skill development courses, workshops, incubation centres, community service, charity activities and various other co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Incessant increase in population of India is a matter of great concern. This population grow this directly linked to the increasing rate of unemployment. Simultaneously, there is shrinking in the number of jobs due to other factors like the automation, increase in maintenance cost, unskilled youth etc. We can see frequently in news that for 100 vacancies lacks of people become applicants. The nation in general and the state in particular, is marred with the problem of unemployment among educated youth. Therefore, the need for Skill-Based System of Education is becoming more vocal in present times. The college has started many skill development courses like B. Voc. Courses, Community College Courses, and various Add on courses in order to make the students skilled and innovative as per the global needs of industry so that they can get good employment as well as start their own entrepreneurship. To tackle the challenging situations of unemployment, in this rural and backward region of Punjab, these courses are helping students to gather knowledge and required skills in the field of their interest.
The courses of B. Voc. in Garment Designing and B. Voc. in Fashion Technology facilitate the students to enhance their knowledge in fashion designing sector, provide all the required skills, knowledge and abilities. The faculty of Department of Fashion Designing and Home Science plays an important role in designing the syllabus of this course. This course provides a vast scope in career options like fashion designing, visual merchandising, costume and textile designing, fashion predictor, fashion director, product development, production management, textile agent, fashion media, event management and self-entrepreneurship options to the youth of this rural belt.
The courses of B. Voc. in Cyber Security and B. Voc. in Software Development provide a great scope to the students to learn various ways of securing their online data by learning various cyber laws, which in turn makes them comfortable to move in the cyber world and provides endless job opportunities in IT sector. Software development enables the students to develop numerous soft wares and get a chance to work in various MNCs with handsome packages. These courses strengthen their technical skills and make them competitive.
The food processing sector provides the highest job opportunities compared to all other sectors. B. Voc. in Food Processing is helping the students to get the latest knowledge and skills of Food Industry. Along with these B. Voc. courses the college has started Community College Courses like Farm Machinery Equipment Operation and Maintenance, Garment Designing, and Green House Technology. Apart from the aforesaid courses, the college also runs various Add on courses, Certificate Courses and five Incubation Centres to make the students innovative, skilled and globally competitive. The various departments of the college conduct numerous capacity building training programmes, workshops, exhibitions and crash courses to enhance their skills. Various departments have signed MOU’s and Tie-Ups with the industry to facilitate the students.
The industry always looks for students who are vibrant, energetic individuals, ready to accept challenges, attentive, fast learners, open to learning even at work and more importantly with a good academic background and good communication skills. Industries today make use of unique techniques during recruitment to make certain that those hired will meet its requirements. The Career Guidance and Placement Cell recognizes these techniques by interacting with the industry and prepares students accordingly. This cell organizes various training programmes for the students to provide all the required skills to face interviews and has conducted placement drives in the college. College has formulated Competitive Examination Cell to provide coaching and training for the preparation of state level and national level exams and job recruitment tests. During the last year many students have been benefited from the coaching provided by the college and have been selected in many jobs. The college has conducted mass level career guidance programmes for the school students.
College conducts numerous co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for the holistic development of students. College students have participated in many state, national and international level cultural and sports events and brought laurels for the institution. The college NSS units, NCC, clubs, societies, committees and departments organize numerous activities for the holistic development of students so that they can contribute for the development of the society. The college uses various platforms to inculcate sense of responsibility towards the underprivileged, zeal to serve the community and love for secular principles among the students. GNC is always ready to help the needy during their tough times as the college has helped people of the area to facechallenges of Covid-19 by providing financial help, free food, masks, sanitizers, garments etc to the needy.
